What does it take to earn a glider license?

First you must work with a certified flight instructor until you can safely fly solo. Prior to receiving your license you must also complete and log:

1. two hours of solo airtime
2. ten solo flights
3. pass three FAA proficiency tests

How long will
it take?

 The time it takes depends largely on the amount of time you have available for lessons and your level of motivation. As a general rule may people solo in about 10-15 hours and obtain their license in another 20-35 hours. The entire process can take anywhere from three months to over a year.

How much
will it cost?

 After your initial $145 introductory lesson, you will pay an hourly rate based on your actual flight and instructor times. Cost varies from person to person but generally you can expect to spend about $1500 to solo and another $1000- $1500 to obtain your license.

Are there
any special restrictions?

 You must be at least 14 years old to solo and at least 16 years old to be issued an FAA glider license. Unlike airplanes, no actual medical exam is required we do however have a maximum weight limit of about 240lbs.

What if I
already have
a pilots license?

 You need to "add-on" the glider rating. All you need is about 3-5 hours of instruction then make at least ten solo flights and take a practical test with our FAA examiner. Cost is about $800-$1000.
